Lots of TNT were used while building that map. That, and lots of creativity of course.

I'm not sure what method tnt is disabled by (it's either through the console/server settings or with region flags), but it is possible for kadd to have done it. There have been a few times when tnt disabling was inactive (usually update related, but sometimes the protection was just buggy) and if the protection is set via region flags he could have overridden the flag within a region.

However, having seen kadd's patience with large projects, I think it's much more likely that he hand-dug that out.

Hand dug? all of that? i don't think he hand dug it all. I'm fairly certain if he didn't use TNT like freakworld said he probably world edited a bunch of it, if not all. However needless to say the map is quite impressive either way.

He might have used a world edit brush that just placed air, got the general shape, then handcarved it from there...

That's what I would have done.

I don't know, he's been an op for FAR longer than me and he hand dug the Minas area

Jigabot, scionozion & jmillius did some more worldedit griefing in the area... which was later fixed by adding the hall of fame island on top of it.
When I got out of the maze system, the Hall of Fame was there. I helped kadd dig a row or two in the Minas area, so we did have WE. I'm not saying he didn't use it on this, I'm just saying that he of all people has the patience to dig that out by hand.

Aye, i made it :) Thanks for the compliment ^^. I Cut out the big part with WE indeed. And then spent many hours making it look natural and carving out the paths. A project i regretted more then once :)
