While the idea has been mentioned a number of times in staff discussions, we have decided to remove all inactive staff members who have not been seen since the start of 2016.
Why remove inactive staff?
Over the years, a number of exploits have hit minecraft. Some of these exploits had the potential to compromise a player's account. Heartbleed is the most well known example of this. In order to maintain the server's security, we cannot allow the chance of an old staff account becoming compromised.
Who got demoted?
In respect for those who have maintained our server, I will be leaving names off this post to avoid another search result for their usernames. There will be a pinned message in the greenies channel of the discord for a few weeks. While I may have not been here to see many of these people's accomplishments, I profusely thank them for their service during MINR's earliest years.
What rank did they get demoted to?
All inactive staff were demoted to the green rank. We will never intentionally take away green from someone who has earned it.
How many staff are there now?
Total: 79 --> 45
Administrators: 31 --> 24
Moderators: 48 --> 21
Can those who were removed regain their ranks?
This is a definite possibility. Any former staff returning to the server will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Will this become a routine event?
As of this time there are no further plans to remove inactive staff members. The only way this changes is if there is another major exploit that can compromise player accounts. This is the first time in MINR's history that we have removed staff members on this scale, but I honestly feel that this action was needed to guarantee the security of the server.
